The Perennial Issue of Illegal Immigration
By Lerana Carle
In the Los Angeles G.O.P Debate last night, the topic of immigration was brought up. During the weekend, Cain was mentioned in many headlines for the the "joke" he said. A moderator at the debate last night brought it back up and asked him if he would prefer that the fence be electric. As a smart Republican, Cain dodged the question like it was never asked. What would America be like if this Republican frontrunner's idea was taken into action? How does this statement make others feel about our country and the people at its head?
I, for one, feel that it is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard in my life. If there was an electric fence at the border of Mexico, do you honestly think it would convince illegal immigrants to not hop over the fence? I don't think it will stop them. It will just motivate them to find a different way into our country. Why should we care if there are immigrants in our country anyway. I mean, technically aren't we all illegal immigrants? Most of our ancestors just took over this land from Native Americans and they didn't make them undergo all of the things we are making immigrants go through now even when they were being killed.
The fact I am trying to get at is that we shouldn't stop people from coming into our country and vice versa. It is understandable that we try to keep our country safe in the process, but at what cost? Should we really try to keep someone out who may be trying to better their life? It just seems idiotic to me.

Immigration: Fenced In or Fenced Out?
