This game is expecting a large turnout from the student body, as many students are anxiously awaiting the exciting season.

The Clipper Hockey team opened its season last Saturday with a victory in front of a large crowd at North Smithfields’ RI Sports Center. The Clippers took a quick lead with a first period goal by Junior Matt Rzmenian, assisted by Senior Michael Kinch. Rzmenian and Kinch both earned 2 goals each. Junior Andrew Dulac and Sophmore Andrew Pluta also earned a goal each, both assisted by Kinch, combining for a total of 6 goals by the Cumberland offense. The Defense was lead by Seniors Ryan “Jersey” Huber and Nick Rainville, as well as Junior Robert Deorsey. Freshmen Tommy Malloy and Kyle Mckenna also contributed to the defense. All 3 lines had an impact on the hard earned 6-3 win.

Despite losing 9 Seniors from the previous season, the young Clippers team is looking very promising for the year, and the next years to come. Cumberland High School has been a top playoff contender for the past 6 seasons, and will most likely make an appearance this year as well.

The beginning of cheerleading
all started when fans were desperate to raise team spirit. A pep club
at the University of Minnesota discussed plans to involve the fans and
picked a group of “yell leaders” to lead the cheers in the crowd. The
most traditional chant is “Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-U-Mah! Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah!
Varsity! Varsity! Minn-e-so-ta!”

Cheerleading was a male-only sport until 1923. Then came the female
cheerleaders. People didn’t really agree with this idea until the
1940s when most of the male student body was taken out for World War
II. But before that in the late 20’s, acrobatics, human pyramids, and
Dance moves were added the the chants.

Today, cheerleading is very different. It is competitive and one of the most dangerous sports in the world. The stunts, pyramids, dances, jumps and tumbling are far more advanced than it was back then.

This should be a great game the winner advancing to play Tiverton the number one seed overall in the semifinals. Lets go Blue!

The Clippers were upset however they played a good game and have the opportunity to play the Lincoln Lions again on their field, this time to try and take the win for the last game of the season.
As of right now the Clippers are in third place trying to make their way into the playoffs, with a big game today against North Providence. As the season is starting to come to a close the girls will be working harder than ever to try and earn their spot in the state championship game. Come out and support the girls Lacrosse team, and GO Blue!

Junior varsity and Varsity softball is one of many spring sports that started. Tryouts for the girls began on March fourteenth and ended on the seventeenth. Every girl worked hard trying to earn a spot on the team, but some had to be cut. There were two cuts; all the girls were anxious to know if they had made the team. The coaches came to their decision, calling each girl up one by one, telling them if they made it or not. Once the team was decided on, practice began the next day right after school.
The team is lead by three senior captains, and two coaches. These two coaches will work the girls hard but they both understand the rules of the game. Everyone wants to bring home a win and the only way to do that is by practicing and helping each teammate out. The team has already become closer and works hard together. Each player cheers the others on and supports them with every decision made. When the girls signed up for the softball team, they knew that they had to be committed, determined and trustworthy.
Last year the both the Junior varsity and Varsity team worked hard and had a great season. This year they plan to work harder and play better for an even better season than last year. Good luck girls.
